Marisa68 Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: New Jersey Posts: 35	Funny feeling in throat I'm new to the boards. Has anyone dealing with thyroid issues had the feeling of something being in your throat? I've had this since late last year, but no doctor seems too concerned since all my lab work come back "within range"! I go back to my dr. on Tuesday and am going to demand an ultrasound and antibodies test. I know this isnt all "in my head" or caused by "stress and anxiety" if one more doctor tries to push anti-depressants on me I'm going to FLIP out! LOL! The feeling is so annoying. Am I the only one? Thanks!

midwest1 Senior Veteran (female)	Nope, you aren't the only one. Before my Hashi's was diagnosed, I had the feeling of a lump in the throat off and on for 15 years. It's a quite common symptom of thyroid disease. Interestingly though, when you research the subject of "globus" (which is the medical term it) on the Net, it's usually labeled a psychosomatic symptom associated with stress. There's a LOT of undiagnosed thyroid disease in the world, and attitudes like this are probably why. Don't let them get by with just saying your tests are "within range". Demand copies of your own so that YOU know the numbers. Many, many times dox tell you there's no problem, when in fact, TSH at the high end of "normal" plus antibodies does indicate a problem. pcm53 Newbie Join Date: Jun 2003 Posts: 1	Hi, I agree with other answers, you are not mistaken. I too have been diagnosed with an enlarged thyroid and often feel something in my throat. Many of my symptoms have started to lessen now that I am taking medication, but not the lump in my throat and general feeling of pressure and sometimes something like a sore throat. UGH. At this point I have had scan, ultrasound and am scheduled for a needle biopsy. Enlarged thyroid (goiter) runs in my family going back 3 documented generations on both sides. Yes, right back to the �20s, and probably before. My best suggestion is that you get yourself a good endocrinologist. As you probably have learned hyperthyroidism can drive you nuts and make you feel just plain awful. BUT, it is all treatable today. Above all it is not in your head! Let your doctor know in no uncertain terms that it is in your throat, and that you expect answers, treatment and on going follow-up.

I'm seeing a different gyno this time around who believes in subclinical thyroid issues. She's even more attentive since I was adopted at birth and have no medical history that I can give. I'll let you all know what happens. The hair loss, itchiness, being cold and anxiety are driving me crazy!! and thats besides the feeling of tightness in my throat! Thanks again!

SandyJR Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Posts: 73	I have a question..once you take your thyroid medication does that lump in the throat feeling go away? I also have it and its been three weeks now and its so annoying and driving me nuts.
